Harmony in Waves: Radiating Friendship and Enriching Experience in the 2024 International Friendship Exchange (INFEX) and DX Contest.

Girl Scouts of the Philippines Rizal Council - Marikina City

In a remarkable showcase of enthusiasm, teamwork, and perseverance, the Girl Scouts of the Philippines Rizal Council - Marikina City with the guidance of DX1R (RARE) made an indelible mark at the International Friendship Exchange (INFEX) and DX Contest held at Sta. Elena High School, Marikina City last February 17, 2024.

The event provided a platform for these young scouts to immerse themselves in the captivating world of international radio communication. While the journey had its share of challenges, the overall sentiment among the participants was one of excitement and enjoyment. For many, the intricacies of international contacts initially posed a hurdle. Yet, with unwavering persistence and a commitment to learning, the scouts not only grasped the complexities but also found joy in the process.

A participant expressed, "It was a bit tricky understanding how to make contacts beyond our borders, but we kept at it, and soon enough, it became a fascinating experience."

The nature of the contest meant there were moments of frustration when establishing contact seemed elusive. However, the scouts approached these challenges as opportunities for growth.

"There were times when it felt like the airwaves were silent, but we learned to try, try again. Overcoming those moments made our successes even sweeter," shared another enthusiastic participant.

Overcoming initial hesitations, some students discovered their voices on air. A scout, who initially struggled with a weak voice due to a lack of confidence, beamed with newfound assurance, stating,

"Talking on air was intimidating at first, but after a few contacts, my confidence soared. It's amazing how this experience transformed me."

The spirit of competition and determination didn't waver, even during mealtime. Students turned lunch into a working session, multitasking as they enjoyed their meals and actively sought contacts.

"We were so into it that lunch became a part of the contest for us. We ate, looked for contacts, and kept a close eye on the radio transmissions. It was both challenging and exhilarating," shared an enthusiastic scout.

The overall feedback from the participants was overwhelmingly positive. The excitement in learning and participating in the contest resonated in their reflections. "This experience has been a highlight of my time as a Girl Scout. The joy of making international connections and the thrill of the contest made it all worthwhile," expressed a delighted scout.

Perhaps most telling of the impact was the unanimous desire among the students to pursue the NTC Amateur License. The contest sparked aspirations beyond its immediate scope, with many expressing interest in furthering their knowledge and involvement in radio communication.

"I never thought I'd want to pursue a license, but this contest opened my eyes to the possibilities. I'm definitely considering taking the NTC Amateur License exam now," said a scout with newfound ambition.

The success of the Girl Scouts of the Philippines Rizal Council - Marikina City at INFEX and DX Contest goes beyond winning; it encapsulates a transformative journey of overcoming challenges, discovering newfound confidence, and fostering a passion for communication. This event not only underscores the resilience of these young scouts but also signifies the enduring spirit of exploration and learning within the Girl Scouts community.
